Fisheries and aquaculture are very important to New Zealanders because of the importance of the freshwater and marine environments for our culture, food and trade. Management of wild fisheries and aquaculture is connected – both require science to innovate and ensure sustainable practice. Understanding environmental impacts, reducing waste, enhancing production and ensuring the highest value for the products we produce are all challenges that will be met through the application of science across a range of disciplines.

The programme of Fish Processing, Quality Assurance and Marketing has been designed to produce graduates who will satisfy the needs of employers as well as self-employment in the twenty first century and are ready to enter engineering employment and are equipped to continue learning throughout their life. The graduates from the programme of Fish Processing Quality Assurance and Marketing will be flexible and able to meet challenges of the job market either formal or informal sectors. This programme of Fish Processing, Quality Assurance and Marketing also address national needs articulated through various aspects of policies such higher and technical education.

The course are offered on a basis beginning with a foundation course in fish farming methods for new entrants progressing to training for experienced farmers, to improve their skills and knowledge of aquaculture techniques. Our courses include training in seaweed on-growing and fish welfare.
